The Ulu (oo loo) is a knife with a semi-circular blade originally crafted by the native Alaskan people over three thousand years ago. Styled for utility, this ulu design comes from the Inupiat indians of North Western Alaska. The blade (world-class stainless steel with a single beveled edge) measures 6 inches and has a four inch Alaskan Birch, light wood handle. The knife comes with a convenient Birch storage stand. The Ulu performs cutting and chopping jobs with the greatest of ease. Because the center of force is concentrated directly over the middle of the blade, it creates twice the direct downward force compared to that of conventional cutlery where the force is behind the center of the blade. Anyone, including those with hand or wrist problems, can perform cutting, chopping and mincing tasks effortlessly, as a result of this dynamic feature. The Ulu is a wonderful tool for slicing meat or chopping vegetables. This knife is so versatile it even makes a great pizza cutter.

The "Chopping Bowl Set":

This combination set includes a stylish wood chopping bowl designed to compliment the Ulu, plus a Ulu knife (Inupiat-style with a six inch stainless steel blade and assorted handles). The curved hardwood (Pacific Northwest Red Alder or Alaskan Birch, 9" x 8" x 1") surface is perfectly shaped for the rocking motion of the included Ulu Knife. This combination enhances the ease of use of the Ulu knife. A 32 page full color cookbook and an instructional DVD are included as a bonus.
